Selanne Back Again

Teemu Selanne apparently still has a hunger for the game, which is good news for not only Ducks fans, but for anyone who is a fan of the game.  He announced on Thursday that he has signed on for the 2011-2012 season, adding in to his message that he is back "for at least one more season."    Regardless of how many times we have let out a sigh of relief at this very same news before, knowing that we will see number 8 flying down the ice once again is as exciting as ever.

Selanne will bring back to the Ducks not only his impressive scoring touch, power play heroics, and quick speed, but also his invaluable locker room presence.  As many teammates, past and present, have pointed out, Teemu always shows up to the rink with a smile on his face.  His passion for the game and veteran leadership will be a monumental addition to a team that has some young guns rearing to start their career, who will undoubtedly benefit from having Selanne to lead by example.

The second line will also, obviously, have some firepower with Selanne there to pot a few (or more).  As mentioned in a previous post, a Plan B was in place if Selanne had decided to call it quits, but there is no doubt that there would have been a sizable hole.

Needless to say, another year of Teemu Selanne is a huge boost to the Anaheim Ducks.  It truly is amazing to watch what he has been able to do in the last couple of years (may I remind you, the man is 41).  I would love to see him break a few more records this year, too.  Right now, though, let's just say I am looking forward to training camp this weekend even more.
