The core is finally locked up!

Chicago Blackhawks have signed 29-year old All-Star center Patrick Sharp to a 5-year extension worth a total of $29.5 million ($5.9 million cap hit).

In the historic year of 2010, Sharp was a huge part of the Blackhawks Stanley Cup run. He knocked in a team-leading 11 goals and added 11 assists to go along with a +10 rating (2nd on the team).

Sharp led Chicago in goals last season with 34 and finished 3rd on the team with 71 points. In the 2011 Stanley Cup playoffs, he registered 3 goals and added 2 assists in 7 games. He was also honored as the 2011 MVP All-Star MVP back in February where he scored a goal and 2 assists.

Sharp was acquired in a trade with Philadelphia on December 5, 2005, and has posted 301 points (150 goals, 150 assists) in 427 career regular-season games with the Blackhawks.
